Healthy Grab & Go Snacks

Bare Baked Banana Chips

Healthy snacks  TASTE GREAT (I feel you rolling your eyes, stop that!).  We all agree, we’d like to make better food choices, but those better choices usually taste like sawdust☹. NO MORE! Today you are being liberated from drab snacks.

Trying to lose weight? Want to maintain your current weight? Research shows that snack choices may be the answer. Over the past 30 years, Americans have increased their calories intake by about 30% increase. Almost all of these extra calories are in SNACKS. That means we are busting out of our jeans and those darn Snickers are to blame!

You’ll be happy to know that there are plenty of decadent, salty, crunchy, even chocolatey snacks to love! I’ve tested them all (poor me–haha) and I’m confident you’ll love these other better-for-you snack options.

I’ve test tasted everything on this list! Basically, our taste buds did all the work so that your tasters can smile (and not suffer some the duds). Everything can be found on Amazon, and as of this post, it is all Prime eligible. I chose the best in class for taste, nutrition, and price. If you live in a small town (or just hate to shop) then Amazon is the way to go, as many of these won’t be available in smaller markets.

My highest recorded weight was 225 pounds. Revamping my snacking has helped me maintain my loss for over 13 years.

I gained those extra 70 lbs, in part, by eating junk (of course, there are lots of reasons I held on to 70 pounds, but food choices played the largest role). I’ve learned to adjust my eating while remaining true to who I am. I like to eat, I like good food, and sometimes I like to grab pre-packaged stuff. Yes, I said it, I don’t always want to cook, and I rely on healthy snack options. Without these healthy snack options, I quickly slip back into my old habits. Healthy snack choices ward off my old habits (usually!).

PS– Check back often, I’ll continue to update this Healthy Snack list.

Snapea Crisps – I love these because they are crispy and salty! For chip lovers, this is a great alternative. The Lightly Salted variety is a winner because other flavors have more calories and carbs. If you want to grab these at your local grocery store you’ll probably find them hiding in the produce section at the end of an aisle.

Bare Banana Chips – Hands down one of my favorite snacks on the list! Banana chips taste crunchy, sweet, and as an added bonus have no added sugar. The Cinnamon Banana Chips are also insanely good. These are the perfect travel snack and they make great movie “candy”.

Bare Baked Banana Chips

Kind Healthy Grain Clusters Peanut Butter – They call this “healthy grain clusters” but I say granola:) These clusters are a winner for two reasons; taste and protein count. Packed with  10 grams of protein per 1/2 cup (almost as much as two eggs) and less than 10 grams of sugar, they make a smart choice for a snack. Power Breakfast: Top Greek Yogurt with 1/4 cup Kind Clusters for tasty, protein packed, grab-n-go breakfast.

Beef Sticks – Jerky lovers rejoice! An entire industry now exists and is dedicated to meat sticks, formerly known as jerky. Grass-Fed Beef Sticks, Gluten Free, MSG Free, Nitrate/Nitrite Free and Paleo Friendly. Meat sticks are the perfect low/no carb snack, they are small and individually wrapped, and easily hang out in your laptop bag or purse. Meat Sticks are a smart choice for many with food allergies. This new style of jerky is not as dried and chewy as the original. Consider them a cross between jerky and sausage. Most flavors and brands use celery salt for curing, so if you can’t digest celery, steer clear.

Larabar Brownie Bites – Larabar makes bars, bites and more. Our top pick is the Brownie Bites. To be clear, these are NOT brownies and not a brownie replacement, instead, they are healthy snacks with an authentic chocolate flavor and the texture of a brownie. They use simple ingredients and their products are gluten-free, non-GMO, vegan, and dairy-free. If you are looking for outrageous brownie flavor, then go make brownies, but if you’re looking for an afternoon snack that’s friendly to the thighs, this is a good option.
